Abstract: There has been an increase in freemium games in the mobile markets for over 3 years now. Sure, most developers are finding strategic ways to capitalize off of this model; although, there are many critics who suggest that the freemium model is a failed one. This article will look at successful freemium games in the mobile marketplace, highlight popular design strategies used, look at the ethical concerns, and prove why this is a more beneficial model for developers/publishers than the outdated premium model.
